The ROC Copyright Law was drawn up and passed in 1928, and now there is a widespread understanding here in Taiwan about the importance of respectig copyrights. Our efforts in this regard have been acknowledged and respected by international society. To promote the Copyright Law, the Directorate plans to release a stamp on the theme of "protecting copyrights." The stamp is composed of 10 symbols representing
categories of human creative or intellectual endeavor protected under the Copyright Law, which are super imposed across the silhouette of a human head (symbolizing brainstorming) that is surrounded by a rainbow (symbolizing wisdom) and cupped by two hands (symbolizing protection).

The Copyright Law of the ROC gives protection to works of written and oral language, music, drama and dance, fine arts, photography, graphics, audiovisuals, sound recording, architecture and computer programming. There is an international trend to respect copyriqhts, and respecting them reflects upon the basic morality of our citizens. The public should not buy, sell or make merchandise in violation of the Copyright Law. Before using other's works. the permission of the copyright holders should be obtained. By respecting others, you respect yourself.

One hundred years of telecommunications service was celebrated on December 28, 1981. To commemorate this historic and auspicious occasion, a set of stamps which features the development of the telecommunications industry in China was released on that day.

The development of our telecommunications system actually began during the Ching dynasty.Largely through the enthusiastic promotion of Li Hung-chang, Governor-General of Chihli, a telegraph line was constructed between Shanghai and Tientsin.Completed in 1881 this first telegraph system with its main office in Tientsin and branch offices along the route to Shanghai signaled the birth of our telecommunications industry.

Since its inception, the growth of the telecommunications system has been constant and marked by significant achievements.In recent years progress in technology and operations has been remarkable.
